Why people choose GDF for their new garage door.
While it's true that initial cost is a key factor for any home improvement, the real value of a garage door is measured over the years in reliability, security, and peace of mind. Some may offer a lower price, but that often reflects compromises on material quality, installation expertise, and long-term durability. Our philosophy is different. We believe in providing a door you'll never have to worry about, which is why we only supply and install premium doors that we know, from our in-depth experience, are built to stand the test of time.
This confidence in our products and craftsmanship is why we back every installation with a comprehensive 5-year parts and labour guarantee - a promise far beyond the standard. While a cheaper door might seem like a saving today, the costs and frustrations of future repairs, premature replacement, and unreliable performance can quickly make it a false economy. With us, you are not just buying a door; you are investing in decades of effortless operation and security. It’s the simple reason our mantra is, "buy cheap, pay twice." Pay a little more once for the right solution, and enjoy a garage door that performs flawlessly, year after year
This is the traditional, single-sheet door that has been on UK garages for decades.
How It Works:
The entire solid panel is hinged at the top. When you open it, the bottom swings outwards and the whole door lifts to a horizontal position, where it rests partly inside and partly outside the garage, forming a canopy.
Key Things to Know:
Movement: Simple outward and upward swing.
Space: Needs clear space in front to open. Can feel a bit 'heavy' to lift manually.
Look & Feel: Robust and classic, but can look a bit bulky when open.
Cost: Generally the most affordable option.
Is a more advanced version of the Up & Over Canopy door.
How It Works:
It starts by lifting out like a Up & Over canopy door, but instead of just pivoting, it runs on a set of tracks at the side. This allows the door to smoothly fully retract.
Key Things to Know:
Movement: Outwards, then backwards and up on tracks. Much smoother and more guided.
Space: Still needs a little space in front to start the outward swing, but the track system makes it easier to operate and creates a very tidy look when open.
Look & Feel: A more modern version of the canopy door. Neater, very clean look when open and closed.
Cost: More expensive than the classic up-and-over, due to the more complex track system.
Are made of a series of insulated horizontal slats that are hinged together. The door opens by rolling straight up around a tube, which is housed in a box at the top of the opening.
Key Things to Know:
Movement: Rolls vertically upwards in a straight line.
Space: The biggest advantages are it's automatic and needs no external space in front of the garage. The roller box takes up space inside, at the top of the opening.
Look & Feel: Contemporary, security-focused appearance. Offers excellent security and not too noisy in operation.
Cost: Compared to a canopy door a more expensive option, prized for its security and space-saving external design.
A Sectional Garage Door is a series of composite horizontal panels joined together, like a fold-up partition. Instead of swinging out, it moves straight up on tracks, and then curves back to run parallel to your garage ceiling, tucking itself neatly out of the way.
How Does a Sectional Garage Door Work?
The door runs on two sturdy tracks, one on each side of the garage opening, when opening, the door panels lift vertically upward, guided by rollers in the tracks. Once clear of the opening, the tracks curve at a 90-degree angle, guiding the door to run horizontally along the ceiling.
Tucked Away: The entire door now rests securely above your car, completely out of the way, both inside and out.
This smooth, guided motion is almost always powered by a quiet electric motor, operated by a remote control.
